SOMOS COLEGIO BILINGÜE DE LA COMUNIDAD DE MADRID

Some days ago, the plaques of the bilingual project of the Comunidad de Madrid were were installed outside the school and in Reception. As we informed in the parents meetings at the beginning of the school year, since September the Colegio Ábaco has formed part of the official bilingual Project of the Comunidad de Madrid, one of a small number of colegios concertados selected to join.

The bilingual project of the Comunidad de Madrid has been functioning for seven years now, and at present includes a third of all Primary students in the region. This school year, for the first time, certain secondary schools have been admitted in the project, to give it continuity beyond primary. In the last few years, the project has accepted requests for entry from colegios concertados which have developed their own bilingual project along the lines marked by the Comunidad, with an extension of the timetable dedicated to English, including the teaching of other curricular subjects through the medium of English. Our project exceeds these requirements.

Admission to this Project, just as admission to the BEDA programme, is based on a detailed report evaluating the English programme in this school, the structure of the classes, the methodology and the objectives of our own bilingual project. For this reason, joining this project can be seen as a recognition of what we are already doing here in Ábaco, and although it is an important step, it will not lead to significant changes in what we are already doing in the Department of Modern Languages.
